One of the central substances in the chemical industry, sulphuric acid presents as a colourless liquid with a strong, distinctive smell. It is a highly corrosive mineral acid consisting of hydrogen, sulphur and oxygen.
The main industrial use of sulphuric acid is in the production of phosphate fertilisers. It is used in the manufacture of hundreds of compounds, including other acids (like hydrochloric acid and nitric acid), detergents, dyes and pigments. It also holds uses in petroleum refining and lead-acid battery manufacture.
We have an on-site dilution plant providing multiple strengths and catering for all requirements. Some of our most popularly-requested dilutions include 96%, 77%, 35%, 30%, 28% and 20%.
• ‘Wet method’ production of phosphoric acid, which is used to manufacture phosphate fertilisers
• Sprayed on potato crop fields to prevent entanglement with equipment
• Catalyst for removing impurities in crude oil refining processes
• Dyestuff product manufacturing
• Catalyst for improving the reaction between dyes and fabrics
• Manufacturing synthetic fibres like nylon and polyester
• Metal processing: iron and steel making industry for ‘pickling’ to remove oxidation, rust and scaling
• Batteries: an electrolyte for powering lead-acid batteries
• Chemical synthesis: to speed up and improve the efficiency of chemical conversions
• Drain cleaners and detergents: dissolves and removes oil, grease, hair and tissue paper
• pH adjustment of process waters and wastewater, removing alkaline contaminants as well as heavy metals
• Catalyst in the production of antibiotics, painkillers and other drugs
• Regulating pH of certain medicines like insulin
