Applications

Food & Beverage

Sodium Chlorite is used widely in the food industry as an anti-microbial agent with its most common application being the decontamination of meat and poultry carcasses. Sodium Chlorite has been shown to be effective in the decontamination process using both spraying and dipping methods and works by targeting bacterial cell membranes, in particular oxidising amino acid components as well as sulfide and disulfide linkages.

Sodium Chlorite is also used in the production of chlorine dioxide which is a proven antimicrobial agent when used in poultry process water as well as an fungicidal in the washing of fruits and vegetables.

Pulp & Paper

The main application is the generation of chlorine dioxide for bleaching and stripping of pulp, and paper.
Used in paper mills to improve run ability of paper machines with less downtime

Textile

In the textile industry, Sodium Chlorite's primary application is for bleaching, whitening and stripping textile auxiliaries. Usable on both man-made and natural fibres, Sodium Chlorite destroys natural colour matter without compromising the integrity and tensile strength of the textile fibres making it suitable in the production of permanently white fabrics.

Water Treatment

Used for disinfection of municipal water treatment plants after conversion to chlorine dioxide which works by removing iron and manganese ions and controlling trihalomethanes. Chlorine dioxide which is produced by Sodium Chlorite is FDA approved.

Wastewater applications across civil, industrial and hospital areas

Applications in cooling towers and potable waters
