- Preservative – As a food additive, Airedale Chemical Sodium Benzoate has the E number E211. It is bacteriostatic and fungi static under acidic conditions. Most widely used in acidic foods such as salad dressings, carbonated drinks, jams and fruit juices, pickles and condiments.
- Used as a preservative in medicines and cosmetics.
- Pharmaceutical applications – used as a treatment for urea cycle disorders
- Sodium benzoate is also used in fireworks as a fuel in whistle mix
