Applications

Automotive

Automotive Antifreeze, de-icing fluids and coolants. MEG stays viscous and effective at extremely low temperatures and so is used primarily to reduce the freezing point of the fluid.

Paints & Coatings

Latex paints and asphalt emulsions. Mono Ethylene Glycol is used widely in the production of water based paints to avoid damage from cold temperatures by depressing the freezing point of the paint.

Plastics & Polymers

Polyethylene terephthalate drink and food containers originate from ethylene glycol

Textile

Clothing and other textiles

Polyester and fleece fabrics. Currently around 55% of mono ethylene glycol consumption is used in the production of polyester fibres.

Carpets and pillows

Water Treatment

Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG) is used to produce industrial antifreeze which has properties that protect engineered systems down to extreme temperatures as low as -50oC.
