Airedale Chemical Lactic Acid is available in both Food and BPR grade materials.

Originally refined by the Swedish chemical Carl Wilhelm Scheele in 1780 from sour milk. It is widely used as an acidulant within foods and beverages that require an edible non-volatile acid and also as a descaler within the manufacturing and formulating of detergents.

Food & Beverage

Primarily found in sour milk, yoghurts, sourdough and koumiss. Lactic acid is used as an ingredient in processed foods and is also used as a decontaminant during meat processing. The application of lactic acid in the meat, poultry, and fish industries is mainly to enhance flavours and to increase shelf life through controlling the growth of pathogenic microorganisms in food
Acidity regulator in beer brewing operations.

The widespread usage of Lactic Acid in the food industry is due to its classification as GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe).
