Airedale Chemical Acetic Acid is an astringent and antimicrobial agent that refers to a crude compound. Its chemical formula is CH3CO2H and is classified as a weak acid however in its concentrated form can be corrosive.

Acetic Acid is a colourless solution with a distinctive sour taste and pungent smell. We are an Acetic Acid supplier and can facilitate orders including 25 litre, 200 litre, 1000 litre and bulk transfer including strengths of 40%, 60%, 80% and glacial. We are also an Acetic Acid distributor, covering the UK, Europe and Ireland with our dedicated distribution fleet of vehicles.  Acetic Acid is produced by natural fermentation, however the vast majority of the Acid used by industry today is produced from the carbonylation of Methanol. This chemical reaction takes Methanol and reacts it with Carbon Monoxide using a catalyst to produce Acetic Acid.

Current production capacity is estimated to be around 19 million tonnes with demand sitting around 13 million tonnes, the major expansion over the last 10 years has been new capacity added in China. However the growth in new plants has plateaued. Demand going forward is expected to increase moderately leading to better utilisation rates on existing plants, the main drivers for increased demand are VAM production and PTA production. Acetic Acid is used as a primary component in the manufacture of Peracetic Acid.
