CSR has become an essential part of any business’ ethos over recent years, but as a chemical company operating in a semi-residential location, it’s essential for Airedale Chemical to make our community a major focus.
Transparency and openness have been absolutely key in setting the foundations of our community relations plans.
We have opened up channels of communication with our neighbours with a regular newsletter written especially for those households in our immediate vicinity, as well as opening our doors with open days where people living near by are welcomed on site.
By dispelling‘myths’ or preconceived ideas about our products and the way we work, we can begin to develop a meaningful relationship with those around us.
This has already been a fantastic year for engaging with and building relationships with our neighbours.
We donated a defibrillator located in the centre of Farnhill – one of a number of such donations we plan to roll out at various locations in the region.
2017 saw the launch of our biggest and most exciting scheme to date. We formed a partnership with Sutton-in-Craven Community Primary School to share the expertise and facilities we have on site, inspire the next generation of scientists and boost a passion for all things STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
Our first event could not have gone better, with a class full of knowledge-thirsty eight year olds who carried out a series of experiements designed to complement their science curriculum, took a virtual tour of the site and tested our team of chemists with their insightful questions. A memorable day was had by all and we’re already excitedly planning our next educational event.
In fact, our CSR activity has built up such momentum we’ve set up the Airedale Foundation, dedicated to supporting causes in our communities that benefit our neighbours – young and old – and enhance the strength of community spirit.
We’ve also been providing continued support to local causes close to our heart with regular deep-cleaning of the public toilets in Cross Hills, and sponsorship of numerous sports clubs and teams including Bradford Salem RFC, Eldwick FC, Silsden AFC Juniors and Ilkley Rugby Club.
We’re thrilled to be involved in talks with Cross Hills library about moving forward as a community-run resource the whole village will benefit from.
CSR has always been, and will continue to be, high on our agenda; as a third-generation family-run business with a big heart and workforce built with local people, we continue to give back all we can to those closest to us.
